"KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN!" How often have you received this piece of friendly advice: "Keep your head down." You hear it from friends or strangers who just can't bear to watch you flub another shot. I wince every time I hear it spoken, knowing the damage this quick fix remedy can do. Golfers will listen to all sorts of bad advice in order to avoid embarrassing themselves. Where did this crazy idea come from? Golfers who spend many hours at the driving range searching for a swing are particularly vulnerable. It's here that tips are freely exchanged; some good, most not so good. Bad advice spreads like a virus up and down the tee line, keeping everyone swinging in the dark.
"Let your head go!" These are the words we all need to hear! The head has to move with the rest of the body. You need two head positions in a swing. Start by keeping the head still your eyes focused on the ball until you sense contact. Once the ball is struck, let the head go and watch its flight from a full balanced finish position. WATCH THE BALL, FOLLOW THE BALL. This simple piece of advice is guaranteed to make your swing more comfortable and efficient.
