Reading greens is an art. It takes many seasons to perfect a knack for seeing the subtle undulations on a green and visualizing the perfect line to the hole. New players would do well to try putting the ball straight to the hole. You'll get it within 4 feet more often this way and cut down on 3 and 4 putt greens. This way putting quickly becomes a fully functional part of your game. Don't get hung up on trying to be too perfect in the beginning. Allow your eye to develop gradually, over time, with experience. Many experts say it takes 3-5 years to perfect your swing. The same is true for putting. You can't rush the process. Good putting results from a combination of skill, intuition, and feel.
